Risk-Taking Behaviour

Learning to manage risk is a key life skill and this workshop will be useful for any adult that wants to learn more about this topic and its relevance to young people in their care. Dangerous risk-taking is the leading cause of death amongst adolescents and is often a social phenomenon; young people only take more risks than other age groups when they are in social situations. It explores tools that adults can use to support adolescents to develop their understanding of risk taking as well as thinking about strategies that can be used to support measured risk-taking in relatively safe environments to help them learn the skills they need.

Course Summary

Delivered by mental health professionals, this two hour workshop focuses on risk-taking behaviour in young people. It offers a matrix that can be used to conceptualise risk, alongside an introduction to a range of risks that teenagers may take. During the session delegates will look at what influences risk-taking in young people and explores what we as the adults around them can do – enabling you to better support young people to make positive choices when faced with any type of risk.
