Childcare

At YMCA Childcare we believe that children deserve the best possible start to their education. To support this, we offer a range of safe, secure, and happy environments in which children feel confident and ready to learn across three childcare settings in Suffolk.

In each setting, your child will be supported by experienced staff who are all committed to providing quality, nursery education, and support. A member of staff will work with you and carers to ensure the nursery provides what is right for your child’s particular needs and interests.

At YMCA Childcare, we know that learning through play helps children develop at their own pace; having fun, making friends, and learning as they play to become confident, secure children – developing early skills that will prepare them for the school life. Children take part in a variety of child-chosen and adult-led activities. We operate ‘free-flow play’ where children can move indoors and outdoors of their own free will throughout the day.

Many families that attend a YMCA Childcare setting are supported by Childcare Funding. You can find out more about what support might be on offer by reading our Childcare Funding page, or by contacting us where a member of our team will be able to support and advise you.

Each of our childcare settings offer different support based on community need. To find out more about each location, please click on their profiles below.

Why is home learning important?

Home learning is important because it helps your child build confidence, develop new skills, and make faster progress. Simple activities like sharing stories, talking about your day, playing games, or counting everyday objects all support language, independence, and curiosity. When learning happens both at home and in nursery, children feel more secure and connected – and this leads to happier, more successful learning.

These activities link directly to the themes your child is exploring in nursery. When you join in with them at home, you help your child build on what they’ve learned, deepen their understanding, and make stronger connections between home and setting. Even small moments of shared play, talk, or exploration can make a big difference to their confidence and learning.
