Last Few Places To Join Peterborough’s Big Sleep Out
The Mayor, Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will be joining local people in the Big Sleep Out on September 28.
ESP has been backing the event which forms part of Peterborough’s 900 campaign and builds on the Sleep Easy event in 2017. It’s organised by YMCA Trinity Group, Hope into Action and The Light Project Peterborough with a goal to achieve a total of 900 hours sleeping rough.
Almost 50 participants have now signed up to sleep at Peterborough Cathedral from 7pm to 7am on September 28. Those joining in will be given materials to build their shelter for the night, as well as refreshments and entertainment.
Jonathan Martin, Chief Executive of YMCA Trinity Group said: “Well done to everyone that has signed up so far. We welcome the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and look forward to hearing their thoughts on the experience.
“It’s really eye-opening for those who take part, as it provides a glimpse of what it’s like to sleep rough. We’re delighted to be working in conjunction with the Peterborough 900 Campaign as well as our fellow charities.”
Reaching the goal of 900 hours of rough sleeping requires 75 participants. The entry fee is £10 for an adult or £17 for a family (2 adults and 2 children). All funds raised will be split between the organisations and used to tackle homelessness in Peterborough.
